An important gateway to the largest cities on the US-Mexico border, El Paso International Airport (ELP) is a single-terminal facility that features several major airlines and provides frequent flights to many US and Mexican cities. Serving over 3.5 million passengers a year, ELP is a modern airport with a great range of facilities and amenities for tourists, business people and the disabled.

The airport lies just 5 miles / 8 km to the northeast of central El Paso and next to both Montana Avenue and the Biggs Army Airfield. Currently the grounds are not only being used for commercial passenger flights, but also by NASA, as a training base of its up-and-coming astronauts, featuring a number of shuttle simulators.

Travel by road is the only method you can access El Paso International Airport, with the I-10 interstate and the US-54 highway being conveniently located nearby. There are many taxis, limousines, shuttles and regular buses providing convenient transfers between the airport and central El Paso, the San Jacinto Plaza District, and the historic village of Ysleta del Sur Pueblo.

Rental car agencies are well represented at El Paso Airport and traveling by car is the fastest and safest way to get around, making it the preferred transportation method of many visitors to the region. Nearby and over the Rio Grande, many visitors head to the Mexican city of Juarez, which is connected by a series of bridges. Tucson, Arizona lies directly west and next to the I-10.

In September 1928, El Paso opened in municipal airport with a grand ceremony, attended by more than 10,000 locals. Since its beginning, El Paso Airport has always prided itself on using the absolutely latest in technology and in 1968, built the country's tallest control tower, which measured some 40 meters / 130 feet. In 2000, the airport led the way once more, when it installed a state-of-the-art radar system.

The present-day terminal building at El Paso Airport offers all of the facilities that visitors need, with Travelex counters, ATM machines, Wi-Fi Internet, business facilities and a conference room. Complementing these facilities is a great range of unique specialty shops, selling local Southern arts and crafts, as well as some friendly bars, quality restaurants and cafés, such as the Forti's Mexican Elder Restaurant, Franklin Express Snackbar and Jake's Coffee Shop.

Both Marriott and Hilton have hotels with extensive business and conference facilities located close to El Paso International Airport, while more modest business requirements are handled competently by the airport's onsite Travelex corner. The airport also features a meeting room, which is equipped for conferences and should be booked in advance.
